2024 Rule Changes

Rule changes effective for the 2024 rodeo season are as follows:

CALF ROPING Rule 10-F remove: “Optional Ground Rule:  Calves shall not be jerked down.  A ten second penalty or disqualification will be imposed for a jerk down.  (Jerk down meaning straight over backward on back or back of head.)  Jerk down rule will not be in effect unless calves have been run a minimum of three times.”
Replace with: “Calves shall not be jerked down.  A $75 fine will be imposed for the first and second offense and a $150 fine will be imposed for each offense thereafter in the rodeo season. (Jerk down meaning straight over backward on back or back of head.)  Jerk down rule will not be in effect unless calves have been run a minimum of three times.”

TURN OUTS Rule 1 remove: “Contestants will be allowed three excused rodeo turnouts per year.”
Replace with: “Contestants will be allowed one excused rodeo turnout per year that will cover three consecutive days.  Contestant will be liable for fees for that turnout if they compete within three days from turnout.”

ELECTION 2024

Election of Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 term and Event Directors for 2024 will be held at the Southern Finals Rodeo in Asheville NC on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 2:00pm.  If you will be unable to vote in person, you may request an absentee ballot by email at sraoffice@aol.com Absentee ballots must be RECEIVED no later than Monday, February 19, 2024.

Three Board seats are available. Nominees are Jamie Ellsworth and Jake Leonard. All 2023 SRA members are eligible to vote for Board.  Members will write in their choice for Event Director only in the events(s) in which they compete.

2024 Board of Director Nominations Suggestions

The SRA is seeking suggestions of members to nominate for the 2024 Board of Directors. Nominees must be current members in good standing that have not been fined/suspended during a three-year period immediately preceding nomination. Board of Directors participate in conference calls, text/email communications, attend meetings held during the SFR and any other times deemed necessary to conduct business of the association. Board members will serve a two-year term. A complimentary membership for the following rodeo season will be issued at the completion of each year of service. Your input will help the current board prepare a ballot of candidates to present for vote by the full membership at the SFR in February. If you would like to be considered as a nominee or make a recommendation, please submit name and a brief summary of why you or the person you are recommending would make a good candidate. Suggestions must be received by 5pm, Wednesday, November 15, 2023 and may be sent by email to sraoffice@aol.com or postal mail to the SRA Office, PO Box 669, Four Oaks NC 27524.
